The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority is pleased to announce the promotion of Amiel Porta to the position of Director of Airside & Terminal Operations at San Diego International Airport (SAN). Porta’s extensive experience and proven leadership will continue to enhance the exceptional passenger experience at one of the nation’s busiest airports.

Porta joined the Airport Authority in 2000 as an intern and has steadily risen through the ranks. He has held various roles within the Terminal Operations department, including Terminal Operations Coordinator and Manager of Terminal Operations. His expertise has been invaluable in overseeing major airport projects, such as the Federal Inspection Services facility and the ongoing New T1 construction.

Under Porta’s guidance, the Airport Authority has expanded its customer service initiatives, including volunteer programs and airport therapy dog services. These programs have contributed to a more welcoming and enjoyable airport experience for travelers.

In 2020, Porta led the effort to earn SAN the Airport Council International World’s Airport Health Accreditation, recognizing the airport’s commitment to health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Porta is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is actively involved in industry discussions through the Airport Cooperative Research Program.
